You could save thousands of dollars a year if you wanted to shop the over 3,000 insurance companies in the United States for all your insurance needs. Do you really want to talk to that many companies and agents? Why not let us do it for you? We canvas the top companies for the product you want, and we help you understand the coverage as well as save you money.
One of the biggest gimmicks of agents is saying that all the prices are about the same. On the Colorado Division of Insurance site, they list prices of some of the companies and products. For instance, just a base policy on car insurance for a 25 year old, there is over $1,000 difference in prices! The difference for an older couple is over $2,000! Health insurance prices can vary by 1,000% (that’s percent – not dollars!), and house prices have almost the same range.
How can this be? First, an insurance company has overhead for building business. Many spend millions upon millions of dollars advertising. Who pays for this? You do when you pay those high premiums. Second, if a company has an agency force, they have to pay the agents, their managers, their regional managers and the national sales manager. Then, they have to pay for people to support those people. Then of course the CEO has to make his money and bonuses. There are numerous companies who decide to just pay an independent agent to do the work for them. We need minimal support, don’t get paid salaries, bonuses, car allowances, and retirement or health benefits. They just pay us a commission to sell their product. This allows many companies to be considerably less than the ones with an agency force. Last, some are more extravagant with their overhead costs and or count on a “special” market that will bring business to them. Certain organizations get paid many millions of dollars to endorse a company or a product. Have you ever heard of AARP? They have nothing to do with insurance, but whoever pays them the most dollars will get the endorsement (though AARP may dictate certain features). All this just drives the premiums sky high.
This does not mean that only small no name companies have the better deals. Met-Life, Travelers, Progressive, John Hancock, Hartford, Mutual of Omaha, United Healthcare, Humana and Prudential are just some of the companies we are licensed with that use independent agents to sell their products. This savings is passed onto you, the consumer by having lower prices.
